October 18, 1947 – September 10, 2026
Annie Covington Simpson was born on October 18, 1947, to the late Mollie Mae Covington Smith of Candor, North Carolina. On Thursday, September 10, 2026, Annie entered into her eternal rest.
She was the firstborn of four children and loved school. She attended Peabody High School in Troy, NC, and graduated as Valedictorian. She later attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, and Montgomery Community College in Troy, NC,
where she earned an Associate Degree and additional certifications in Childhood Education and clerical studies.
Annie was passionate about early childhood education. She worked most of her adult life in the Montgomery County Schools Education System, from which she retired in 2005. She touched countless lives during her tenure, and her influence will be felt for years.
Annie accepted Christ early in life at her childhood church, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Candor, NC. She remained a faithful member there until she was united in Holy matrimony to her husband of 59 years, Bishop Arlester Simpson, Sr. Ministry took Annie and her husband on a beautiful journey with the Lord. They first shared
their gifts at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Gilead, North Carolina, and then at Sidney Grove Church of Deliverance in Ellerbe, NC, where they served as Pastor and First Lady for 53 years.
Annie was a woman of faith, grace, and integrity. She touched many lives through her kindness and love for God and His people. Annie brought a special light, energy, and humility to the title of First Lady. She considered the members at Sidney Grove her family, and treated them as such.
She worked faithfully in ministry alongside the Sidney Grove membership as an example of servanthood, until her health declined. Lady Annie Simpson served her church as an exercise instructor, Sunday school teacher, finance officer, choir member, women’s ministry president, church travel agent, church decorator, and cleaning committee member. The footprint she leaves can never be erased.
In her spare time, Annie loved lunch dates with her husband, shopping, baking, making exotic new dishes, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
