January 7, 1947 – September 13, 2019
Theresa Ann Bowden was born on January 7, 1947, in Montgomery County, N.C. to the late Jessie Lawrence and Lonnie Mae Bowden. She departed this earthly life on Friday, September 13, 2019.
She is preceded in death by her aforementioned parents, two brothers, Joshua & Nathan Bowden, a nephew, Joshua Bowden, a niece, Shawanna Turner, and her significant other Marvin Bowden.
Theresa, known by most as “Ann,” worked in the textile industry for years. She spent time at Russell Harvell in Mt. Gilead, N.C. & Russ Knit in Candor, N.C. until she received her GED and furthered her education as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ann spent the last several years serving in nursing homes and providing home health care until her retirement.
Anyone that knew “Ann,” knew that she was a unique, vibrant, bold, and sometimes sassy character. She loved to dance, sing, dress well, wear high heel shoes, and often referred to herself as “Ms. Tina.” In all of that, she was yet very loving and selfless. She would feed and open her home to anyone at any time. She was actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Ann could always be counted on to support her family during their ups and downs.
Ann spent her earlier years as a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, N.C. Over the past few years, Ann faced many illnesses but didn’t let them defeat her. Instead, she allowed them to change her. In 2014, Ann began to have a new outlook on life and wanted to have a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ whom she credited for saving her life. She began attending PKOM (Pastor Teddy Williams) and visited as much as her health would allow.
Ann was the matriarch of her family, a light, and a blessing to many. Her genuine love, cooking, hospitality, and lively personality will surely be missed.
She leaves to cherish a daughter, Marva (Ezon) of Ellerbe, NC; two sons, Marlon of Ellerbe, NC and Kevin of Asheboro, NC; two brothers, Jesse Bowden (Irene) of Mt. Gilead, N.C. and Earl Bowden (Doris) of Mt. Gilead, N.C. ; three sisters, Betty Bowden of Rockingham, N.C., Juanita Bowden of Mt. Gilead, N.C., and Claudette Thomas of Biscoe, N.C.; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was a mother-like and grandmother-like figure to many.
