November 12, 1963 – September 8, 2024
Steven Edward Norris, of Bronx, New York, gained his wings at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina, on September 8, 2024.
Steven graduated from Union Pines High School, where he was a multi-faceted athlete, holding track and field records and football, where he gained his nickname “Speedy.” He also attended college in New York and played football on an athletic scholarship until a career-ending knee injury. Steven was a foodie and loved cars, sports, and wrestling. Some of his favorite shows were “Night Rider,” “Walker Texas Ranger,” and “Law and Order SVU.” He was also a huge New York Yankees and Duke fan. He loved the rivalry basketball between Duke and UNC. Steven loved family gatherings and spending time with his grandsons.
Steven was born to Almeta Dunston (Barbra Norris), who preceded him in death. He leaves behind Joseph Dunston (Father), two sisters, Pamela Dunston and Cheryl Dunston; aunts and uncles: Mattie Middleton, Peggy Norris, Louvenia Jackson, Charles (“Rock”) Norris, William (“Hen”) Norris; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. He also leaves behind Terry McKeithen, who was like a sister.
CHILDREN: James Adrian Pratt, Tamekia LaQuane Martin, Aaron Christopher Norris, and Amanda Jade Norris. His nieces and nephews, aka his “protégés” who always held a special place in his heart, include Cornisha Torlonda McGuine, Shalisa Patrice Miller, A’Ziah Kalaya McGuine, Nishelle Denea Winters, Nisean Devan Winters, and Chyna JaShae Jackson.
GRANDCHILDREN: Steven loved being a Grandpa and treasured his time with his grandsons, Ace Carter Norris and Eden Jase Norris.
FRIENDS: Steven loved and left behind a host of relatives and friends, including Charles Townsend, John McCleod, Betty Johns, Robert Gillespie, and Nelson McCrimmon.
EMPLOYMENT: Steven was employed by Carthage Fabrics where he was a supervisor for over 15 years, until it closed. He then became self-employed with his own cleaning service business while also working at Pinckney and Pfizer before his health declined.
CHURCH/COMMUNITY GROUP: The hand of God was upon Steven’s life. He was an ordained minister who prophesied, spoke, and preached the word of the Lord to many. He loved to worship and was an avid prayer warrior. He was a member of Works for Christ and later attended New Life Fellowship Church in his last days.
Steven will always be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and prophetic words. We couldn’t have asked for a better father and friend; he will be missed greatly. Steven’s memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved him.
