June 24, 1940  –  October 26, 2020

Sallie Mae LeGrand Person was born on June 24, 1940 to the late Arthur LeGrand and Sallie Dumas in Richmond County, NC. Sallie departed this life on Monday, October 26, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Sallie Mae attended the public schools in Montgomery County.

She met and married her husband Leander Person in 1958. From their 62 yearlong beloved marriage 5 children were born.

Sallie Mae aka “Sallie Ann” left NC in 1959.  After working many years for the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Bronx, she retired and relocated to North Carolina in 2000.

Sallie Mae was member of Holly Grove Deliverance Church.

She was preceded in death by her son Danny, Grandson Anthony (Rondell), Sister Luretha (Lulu), and Brother Samuel (Buddy).

Those left to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Leander Person of the home; four children, Anne Thompson (Joe) of Bronx, NY, O’Neal (Charlotte) Person of Bronx, NY, Ricky Person (Pamela) of Winston Salem, NC, and Michael Person (Denise) Winston Salem, NC.  Seven siblings: Hannah Mae Penn (Pen),Will LeGrand (Helen),Shirley Cagle (Charles), Carrie Wallace (Perry), Martha Baldwin (Walt ), Brenda Legrand (Jerry), James Legrand (Darlene). Nineteen grandchildren: Keenan, Kyle, Krystal, Keisha, Devonia, Devonte, Charmaine, Gretchen, Danielle, Latavia, Roshell, Raven, Rikeya, Jamel, Demetrius, Mikey, Rodney, Edward, and Nyah to cherish her memory. She also leaves behind Ms. Mary LeGrand a special niece along with a host of other nephew, nieces, cousins, a growing number of great-grandchildren and dear friends.
