Roy Nicholson

Roy Nicholson

June 5, 1948July 24, 2024

Roy Nicholson of Candor, North Carolina, gained his wings at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina,on July 24, 2024.

Roy was born to Addie Nicholson and Willie Cole, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Sarah Nicholson, Robert Nicholson, Edward and Edna Nicholson, Samuel L. McCauley, John W. McCauley, Jimmy Cole, David Cole, Lenny Cole, Joseph Cole, and Michael Cole, and a great-grandchild, Javian Write.

Roy, affectionately known as “cha cha” and “paw paw,” was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. His grand and great-grandchildren would argue that he was the best paw in the world. Roy was a man’s man who worked tirelessly his whole life. He instilled the value of hard work in his children and grandchildren. His love knew no bounds, and he cherished everyone he met unconditionally.

Roy was a member at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Candor, North Carolina. Everyone in the community knew him. You could find him, his wife, and their friends spending time together at the Quik Chek any day of the week. He always would lend an ear if you needed someone to talk to and a kind word to help you find your way. He would help in any way he could if he had it to give. He did everything with love and a smile that warmed the coldest heart. If you didn’t like him after a conversation, you probably walked off with a change of heart and wondered why you didn’t like him in the first place.

He was a father figure to any child who crossed his path. He always smiled and had a word of wisdom if you would listen. He did not meet strangers and had a host of friends. Roy did many things to provide for his family. He cut wood and farmed, and he spent twenty-five years working as an iron pourer in a steel mill or Biscoe foundry. He worked there until his health started to decline, and he could no longer work.

He leaves to cherish his memories of his wife, Linda Collins Nicholson; three children, Roddrick Johnson, Marsha Collins, and Leroy Collins (Idalmis); sisters, Rebecca Nicholson, Shirley Nicholson,  Wanda Dumas, Hallie Benesford, Maria Cole, and Shirley Cagle; brothers, Ivey Cole and James A. Cole; grandchildren, Monique Moore, Shana Moore, Tierra Johnson, Daje Watts, Lucretia Brower, Antonio Simmons, Tashara Simmons, Shekira Little, Mitchell Little, James Poole, and Nalaina Collins; six great-grandchildren, Londyn McBride, Zah’Kari Little, Ava Simmons, Jadicus Moore, Zaitwan Price, Khalil Price; other relatives and Friends.
