Margaret Lee Harden

Margaret Lee Harden

March 26, 1939 –  September 25, 2024

Margaret Lee Harden gained her wings at her home of 184 Dixie Trail in Hamlet, North Carolina, on September 25, 2024. She was born to the late Alma and Norman Williams, along with nine other siblings.

Margaret was a mother, sister, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many. She loved her family immensely and anyone she considered a friend. She joined St. Luke #1 Original Free Will Baptist Church early in life and was a member of the Usher
Board, a task she took very seriously and enjoyed doing until her health would not allow her to serve. She remained faithful and committed to serving God. She attended Plainview Elementary School and Mineral Springs High School. She later met and married
Robert Harden of Hawkinsville, Georgia, to which three children
were born: Deborah, Robert, and Cynthia Harden.

Margaret was employed at Gilead Manufacturing in Mt. Gilead, NC, as a domestic housekeeper for the Gallimore, Dewitt, Comer, and Covington families of the community.

Margaret loved her family and would do anything she could for them. She enjoyed good ole Gospel music, cooking, and good conversations. If there was something that you needed to know, she could often tell you what was happening around and about
the community. Sometimes, you would need to fact-check her for pinpoint accuracy, and most of the time, she had the story right. She loved herself some sweets and often stated, “I don’t feel like I have eaten if I don’t get something sweet.” She enjoyed talking to people
and often said some of the funniest things. She carried with her a very good spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Norman Williams; her husband, Robert and daughter, Cynthia all of the Winblow Community, in Ellerbe, NC; her siblings, Lucy Mae Steele (Edward), Erving Williams, Norman Williams Jr, and Charles Williams, all of the Windblow Community, Samuel Harden (Bell), and Mathew Harden (Roxie) of Orlando, Florida, and Effie Boston (Willie) of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Larry Adams of Ellerbe; aunts and uncles Fannie Mae Williams (Ollie), Leonard Williams
(Lola), Eddie Bell (Mack), and James Henry Williams, all of the Winblow Community; her friend, Ms. Sarha James Evans (McLean) of the Windblow Community; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends, for which there are too many to name.

Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories to her beloved children, Robert Harden (Mildred) of the home, and Deborah A. Harden (Sanpeur) of Charlotte, NC; her siblings, Mable Smith (Bobby) of Jackson Springs, NC, Veola Adams of Pinebluff,
NC, Jeanette Gaines (Rufus) and Doris Simmons (Donald) both of Asheboro, NC, Robert Williams (Sarah), Geneva Steele and Clara Williams, all of Ellerbe and Edna Ruth Watkins of the Windblow Community; and a brother-in-law, Joe Harden of Orlando, Fla; We will always cherish the memories we shared with her.

Also left to cherish her memory, her cousin, Retha Mae Riley (Mickens) of Yemassee SC, and Stephanie Harden of Raleigh, NC; a grandchild, Jeremy D. Harden of the home, who she loved and cared so much for; her great-grandchildren, Cameron E. Harden of Myrtle
Beach, SC, and Jasiah Harden of Fayetteville, NC, both of whom she loved, cherished, and grew very fond of; her friends, Bobbie Clemmons of Hickory, NC, Carrie Gould (Capel) of Rockingham, NC, Willie Mae McRae of High Point, NC, Ms. Etta Ruth Townsend
of Hoffman, NC, Ms. Victoria Martin, Mattie McLendon and Ms. Betty Jean Armstrong, of all of Norman, NC, Ms Dotsie Steel of the Windblow Community, Ms. Catherine Robinson of Columbia, SC and a cherished friend, Louise Harden of Orlando, Fla.

Margaret will always be remembered for her good spirit of love and affection for those she met and cherished. We will always imagine hearing her say, “Hey, My Love, how are you doing?” Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
