October 28, 1951 – April 29, 2024
Elmer Capel Jr. was born in Troy, NC, on October 28, 1951, to the late Elmer Capel Sr., and Agnes Brower Capel. He was called to his eternal home on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Elmer Jr., graduated from East Montgomery High School in Biscoe NC and attended NC A&T State University for two years. Elmer Jr. was married to Eunice Geraldine Simmons Capel. He dedicated 31 years of his life to Alcoa in Badin, NC, where he made significant contributions and retired with honor.
Elmer Jr. loved the outdoors–whether working (or mostly telling somebody else what to do), farming, hunting, or fishing (and the size of the fish seemed to grow bigger each time he bragged about his catch).
Elmer Jr. also enjoyed being around people. It was not uncommon for him to share meals, vegetables from his garden or just conversations (or debates) with family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. Relaxing and shooting the breeze under his carport with others was always fun for him. There was never a time he was bashful about sharing his expert opinion about something–or anything–whether solicited or not. But what truly made him stand out was his love for singing. Whether he was singing a song by Marvin Gaye or Marvin Winans, his melodious voice filled the air with passion and, sometimes, tears.
Though Elmer Jr., spoke volumes, his love of the outdoors resonated with his sons. Both Derrick and Daryl emulate his passion for hunting, gun safety, and fishing, but with a more accurate size of the fish caught. Elmer Jr. also demonstrated a strong work ethic, which both sons patterned after him.
Elmer Jr. was predeceased by his wife, Eunice Geraldine Simmons Capel, and his parents, Elmer Capel Sr., and Agnes Brower Capel. Elmer Jr., leaves behind a rich legacy, cherished by his two sons, Derrick Jerome Capel (Aurora) of Mansfield, TX and Daryl Andre Capel of Candor, NC; four grandchildren, Rosa Elena, Xavier, Adrian and DeAndre; his sisters, Patricia Bowens (Bill) of Playa Vista, CA, Vivian Merritt (David) of Winterfield, NC, Paula Whittington of Snellville, GA, Debra Ross (Gregory) of Glendale, MD and Yvonne Minor (Kenneth) of Lanham, MD; a brother, Glenn Capel of MD; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
