Benjamin Franklin Steele Jr (“Benny”)

Benjamin Franklin Steele, Jr. (“Benny”) passed away on May 18,2022, in Atlanta, Georgia, at age 66. He was born on October 27,1955, to the late Benjamin and Otelia York Steele in Rockingham,North Carolina, where he was raised and attended public school.

Benjamin was baptized at the age of twelve and was a member of Providence Baptist Church, located a few blocks from his home. Benny grew to have faith in God. After high school, he enrolled in college and graduated from North Carolina Central University
in Durham, North Carolina, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s degree in Social Science. He taught in the public school system in North Carolina until he moved to South Carolina and then subsequently to Atlanta, Georgia, in the early 1990’s. He made his home there and earned a living in the travel, hospitality, and hotel industries. That line of work was perfect for him, as it allowed interaction with the public, allowing him to practice good
work ethics, show kindness and professionalism, and exchange conversations. Benny continued working part-time at Motel 6 Downtown Atlanta until the weekend before his demise.

Several years ago, Benny returned to reading and meditating on scripture daily. He was not ashamed of his faith in God’s love through Jesus and became a witness to all who had ears to hear. He loved his family and a good conversation. We remember him always in good spirits with wisdom to spare.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Betty Curtis. He is survived by three stepsons, William H. Burson, Jr., Patrick R. Burson, and Kaelon T. Burson; two brothers, June Martin and Chester McLendon; as well as many cousins and friends.
